Kai Joseph Williams (KAi Sky Walker) is a Canadian vocalist born on September 30th, 1989. He originates from the Burnaby area of Vancouver, British Columbia, bounced around in his youth, spending significant time living in Hawaii, Kelowna, Surrey & E. Vancouver. The absence of a female influence throughout his life coupled with his already turbulent upbringing led to a tumultuous adolescence for KAi, eventually getting kicked out of his home and dropping out of school at the age of 16. For the next 3 years, KAi was homeless, bouncing between Surrey and Kelowna, staying at friends and filling in the gaps by sleeping at the local McDonald’s. It was during this time however, that he truly found his gift as an artist, recording his first rough project titled, “ADayInTheLife”.
Soon afterwards, KAi re-connected with his birth mother and younger half-brother, Evan “Astor” Smith. This proved to be a pivotal moment in his life; Evan’s father was the owner of an audio visual company and subsequently had an abundance of sound equipment, and Evan had grown up playing the drums his entire life. Being reenergized by the presence of KAi, Evan began the task of mastering the Native Instruments Maschine, while slowly building the studio dubbed “The Cauldron”. Developing into one of Vancouver’s top producers, Astor soon became Sky Walker’s go-to producer.
2012 was a breakthrough year as a solo artist for KAi, with the release of his coveted mixtape, #NEO. His lead single, "Fly (We Do), was awarded a Much Music VideoFACT grant and received medium rotation on their MuchVIBE network. Furthermore, he was able to connect with young Roc Nation up and comer, Casey Veggies to record the single, "Grow Up". With the strength of these 2 singles as well as others, KAi was able to catch the attention of some of the elite online publications in the industry (2 Dope Boyz, You Heard That New etc.) and begin to expand his reach.
Throughout this entire time KAi had the opportunity to build a substantial performance resume, having recently headlined a stage at the Center of Gravity Festival in Kelowna, BC as well as touring Western Canada with Bone Thugs N Harmony and opening for the likes of Bun B, Three 6 Mafia (2x), Yelawolf, Juelz Santana, Warren G, Killer Mike, Dead Prez, Bassnectar, Kid Ink (2x), Pac Div, Z-Trip, Excision & Datsik, The Pharcyde, Moka Only and others.
For 2013, Sky Walker looks to expand boundaries into unexplored territory and grow his reach in North America on a large scale with his latest project, New Mind | Old Soul. With an entirely unique and never-been-done before marketing strategy, his newest piece of art caters to multiple genres of music, leaving a smorgasbord of content for listeners to pick and choose from at their pleasure. Stay tuned…The revolution will be televised.
